Coronavirus Outbreak: Amazon, Netflix, Hotstar, YouTube to cease HD streaming 

Coronavirus outbreak in China early January 2020, the pandemic has spread to global regions.

Europe with Italy worst affected, most of the affected areas across Europe with more than 450 million population are under lockdown and with restricted movements.

People have been asked to work from home and others are binging on multi-media contents on streaming apps to kill the time.

It has caused a heavy load on the cellular network, phone companies have sought the joint intervention of the telecom department and the home ministry to coax over-the-top (OTT) video streaming services to expedite steps to ease pressure on telco networks.

No HD streaming for Netflix and other OTT platforms

The telcos have called on the video streaming service providers to temporarily migrate from HD (hi-definition) to SD (standard definition) streaming, and even dispense with heavy bandwidth-consuming advertisements and pop-ups to ease network load.
